What Is an APA Citation?
APA is an abbreviation of American Psychological Association, and under this kind of format citation is often used for research papers and thesis reports. When you are going to be using an APA citation, you must also know that there is a specific format for an APA citation that is different from the MLA citation format and Chicago citation format.
How to Make an APA Citation
To outline the APA as well as how to make it like we are using the correct format. You may already have thought about this and have at least a distinct idea of how different this kind of citation is to the MLA format. For an APA citation, the following steps below will be considered your guide.
Step 1. The Last Name Followed by the First Name of the Author
When you use an APA citation format, you will first notice that the last author is written first before their first names. Their first and middle names do not have to be written in full and can be abbreviated or simply placed with a letter of their first name and middle name. All of which is separated with a coma.
Step 2. The Year, Month and Day of Publication
This is a continuation of the first part which is the last name, first name and middle name. After the name of the author the year, month and day of publication is next. Which is separated with a coma and open and close parenthesis. Which will then look more like this: Author’s last name, Author’s Initials, (the year, month, and day).
Step 3. The Title of the Book, Article or Link, Page Number, Publication
The next part is the title of the book, the article or the link. If you are writing the title of the book, you must also add the page number, the volume number and the location of where it was published. If it so happens that you are using links, the page number does not have to be added. But they do still follow the same format.
Step 4. Repeat the Entire Process for All Citations
Lastly, when you have made one complete citation in the correct format, all you have to do now is to follow the same process until you have written all of it. Repeat the entire process until all of the citations, regardless of which citation you used, i.e. parenthetical citation, MLA citation, APA citation, Chicago citation have are placed in the correct order.
