My
first
encounter

because
it
treats
software
engineering
as
a
rigorous
engineering
discipline
rather
than
a
craft
learned
by
trial
and
error
.
I
am
eager
to
study
formal
methods
for
distributed
protocols
under
faculty
whose
work
I
have
followed
in
the
Symposium
on
Operating
Systems
Principles
.
The
opportunity
to
contribute
to
research
on
resilient
infrastructure
for
climate
data
would
align
my
professional
trajectory
with
a
field
that
desperately
needs
reliability
.

am
particularly
drawn
to
the
program

software
engineering

the
world
now

and
the
stakes
are
too
high
for
us
to
treat
reliability
as
an
afterthought
.
