INTERNSHIP STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I am Jane Morgan, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry student at the University of California. I
am currently in my second year into my undergraduate course and as early as now, I would like to
challenge myself in obtaining practical knowledge from an internship as a laboratory assistant at
Pfizer, Inc. I am curious as to how a real pharmaceutical laboratory works and I would like to
prepare myself early on in the career path I want as a pharmaceutical chemist.
As one of the world’s premier biopharmaceutical companies, an internship at Pfizer would
definitely develop my competence and credibility as a future chemist. The company’s research and
development centers are where breakthroughs in science are conceived. With the technological
innovation the company has displayed in battling the coronavirus pandemic, the company has
proven to be a powerful tool in the preservation of life. I want Pfizer to mold me into becoming the
scientist I aspire to become one day. Aside from this, I believe it is important to have more students
taking interest in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry since more minds would mean more
scientific advancements especially in the field of medicine.
I started taking an interest in laboratory science in high school when I became my science
professor’s assistant in her research thesis. First and foremost, I volunteered because I was curious
about how she was going to culture a type of bacteria she was studying. With this experience, I
gained an idea for a research project in my last year of high school that required me to also culture
bacteria to yield an analysis that ensures the safety of food and its economic production and
distribution. It was considered a very difficult research topic by the research panel but my
determination and my curiosity resulted in the Best Research Award given to me upon graduation.
In college, I sought to it I visited the laboratory every now and then and just explore the
instruments inside. I befriended Dr. Mary Lane, the laboratory keeper and she colored my
laboratory experience.
