STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Human Beings are the Earth’s dominant species and minds with high intellectuals that strived
through-out the history moving forward towards evolution. In the path of our existence from
the invention of wheel to the modern space shuttles - Mechanical engineering has been
assisting mankind to keep moving forward. This has intrigued me to explore the option of
pursuing master’s course in Mechanical Engineering from your prestigious University, which I
believe will not only supplement my knowledge that I have acquired but also provide me with
the best possible platform for the attainment of my future goals.
Since my childhood, I have been inclined towards core subjects - physics, chemistry, and
maths. Naturally I made my choice to choose an engineering major in college. As a
Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student with an ardent interest in the industrial work
environment, I had learned that applied Mechanics is a discipline of engineering that deals with
the principles of engineering-physics and material science for analysis, design, manufacturing,
and maintenance of mechanical systems. The field of engineering that involves the production
and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines
and tools. My interest in mechanical engineering was kindled when I took introductory
courses in basic mechanics, thermodynamics and control systems. I really appreciated the fact
that my specialization allowed me to put the focus on application/ lab-based courses in
tandem with the theoretical courses. I have always been a hands-on learner and find it easier
to remember what I learned if I get the opportunity to practically implement the concept
being taught.
While pursuing my course I was exposed to multiple doorways of knowledge in the form of
mechanical labs, internship courses to gain on sight experience and had been part of a team
working on our academic project. After a lot of discussion along with my team-mates, I
proposed the idea of the “Head Gesture Wheel Chair” this idea came from my deep thoughts
about my elder brother. Even while being physically handicapped nothing ever stopped him
from exploring the world. His disability was only physical but his ideology to help people
like him was marvellous. After proposing my intentions to my fellow crewmates and
discussing the technical details with our professors at college we started our work. We used
an Arduino-UNO a micro-controller board and we coded the instructions using Embedded-C
for easy use of both hardware and software applications. An ultra-sonic sensor was computed
in-order to calculate the distance, it uses a transducer to send and receive ultrasonic pulses
that relay back information about an object's proximity. Instead of using accelerometers we
decided to use a gyroscope sensor, a device capable of measuring and maintaining the
orientation and angular velocity of an object. We spent months working on it everyday and as
a recognition to all our efforts to make the world a better place trying to contribute towards
the society by trying to help people like my brother, to our surprise our project was ranked
first in inter-college competition and Intra-college competition held at JNTUK. To gain
onsite experience and attain more knowledge, I attended an internship at BHEL and worked
in Gas Turbines unit which helped to understand how to use my skillset in my future course
of actions.
I always desired to learn and explore the various possibilities and technicalities that my
education will lead me towards. In-order to test my intelligence using real time applications
and to challenge my skills, I was given an opportunity to work at one of the esteemed
companies “Accent Engineers” as a Junior Mechanical Engineer. I Designed mechanical and
electromechanical products and systems by developing and testing specifications and
methods.Evaluating mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing
and conducting research programs and applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics,
hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials. Confirming system and product capabilities by
designing feasibility and testing methods and properties. Preparing product reports by
collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends. Co-ordinating manufacturing
processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and
installing components. While working along with my fellow employees for 3 years 6months I
decided to advance towards my future goals by completing my masters.
The American universities have always pioneered the research in my fields of interest. Being
a prospective student for new challenging ideas, I believe that an opportunity for higher
education in U.S.A. would be a unique fortuity to test and prove my ability and also to enrich
and broaden my keen with transition to a new setting. I believe that over the years, I have
evolved into a person who can fit easily into a team and who appreciates the value of
discussion and exchanges of ideas. I am largely self-regulated and am capable of independent
work, given an opportunity.
After analysing and gathering information about several universities around the country
and comparing them as per my suitability, I found your prestigious university is the perfect
place and platform to achieve my goals. I am highly impressed by the faculty,
infrastructure and environment of the university. I believe your university will give me a
perfect platform for my masters. I request you to consider my candidature for the applied
