Statement of Purpose
I have witnessed a massive transformation in the way we interact with computers from the
late 2000s to the current digital era, where Augmented Reality and decentralized digital space
in Web 3.0 are the new buds waiting to blossom in their full bloom. Technologies like
Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning are getting better daily and coming closer to the new
era of Machines and Information Technology, aiming to make every machine on earth an
ethically thinking device. Having been involved in the ever-evolving field of technologies
and taking baby steps and leaps in the journey of learning the nuts and bolts of it, I have
reached a stage where I believe the master's education would take my knowledge on a higher
platform and open broader and exciting career prospects for me.
My undergraduate education promoted opportunities for interdisciplinary education, and I
took this opportunity to explore different facets of Computer Science. I gained ground in the
concepts of Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Programming Principles, Computer
Networks, and Operating Systems, which gave me fundamental knowledge of how the whole
software system works. In the 7th semester of my bachelor's in engineering, I got particularly
interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) as I could see complex real-world problems that
could be solved using AI. While diving deeper into AI, which is about building intelligent
systems, I came across Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), which is about making such
systems easy to use by humans.
Throughout my academic career, my CGPA scores rose progressively and bolstered my
position among the top 1 percent in my branch. As an engineer, one must refrain from
contending by acquiring theoretical knowledge; the real reward for the acquired skills is by
putting them into use. In this direction, one of my first projects was a fully coded app built for
farmers to help them get supplies directly from the market without paying commissions to a
middle person. The app aimed to help them know about suppliers and their prices and gave
them knowledge about new agricultural tools and machines, and they can reach out to nearby
agricultural centers for help. The idea behind this stemmed from one of my teammates, who
came from a farming background, and her family members used to face such problems.
Hence, we decided to work on it and help them through an app that will help reduce their
problems.
I have always had a passion for solving problems and an attribute of giving back. With such
an attribute, I volunteered at an animal welfare association where I met kind humans who
selflessly serve and rescue animals and birds and even spread awareness through public
campaigns. I joined them for two years before my bachelor's. Besides that, my passion
eventually led me to the field of User Experience while pursuing engineering. As I learned
about my inclination towards design and user experience, I searched for courses to learn basic
skills and found a great online system: Google UX certification. So I pursued the certification
courses, which helped me build the foundation. It was tough to start my career in design at
the beginning as I used to see designers following different strategies and processes, and I
always needed clarification, so I decided to pursue this course, which worked incredibly.
My learning and personal projects experience helped me earn an internship at TST
Technology as a UX designer. During my first month of the internship, I received an intern of
the month award for my tasks and outstanding performance. Later, I continued in the same
company as a full-time employee while pursuing my final year of engineering. During this
time, I got exposure to the professional ecosystem and met terrific designers, developers,
entrepreneurs, and prominent clients. Being a designer at an emerging startup, I handle design
projects and get to lead them now. I interact directly with the clients, understand their
expectations, requirements, and problems, and provide solutions. Besides that, I guide
newcomers to help them understand the company's UX process.
Moreover, I dwelled on personal projects, which were problem statements I discovered by
interacting with people or through the internet. One of my ongoing projects is based on the
problem statement of reducing the communication gap between deaf, mute, speech impaired,
and people with no such disabilities. I learned that people with such disabilities face
significant issues when expressing themselves, leading to depression, social anxiety, self-
doubts, and many other things. After researching more about it and reaching out to many
people who have such disabilities, I gathered the pain points being faced by them and their
close ones. With all the data combined, I worked on a solution to help them reduce the gap.
The answer is an app that can detect sign languages and convert them into text or speech with
a segment of learning basic signs. Though this project requires more work and it's in its initial
stage, I understood the importance of research while working on this project. Interviewing
users opened up my entire understanding of their problems. Despite having sign language,
they still need help conveying their thoughts to others because only some understand sign
language. While working on this project, I learned that psychology, technology, research, the
interaction of humans with digital systems, and other such fields of study could help me
create a more inclusive and well-thought solution. It will also help me in my future
workplaces to build human-centered products.
During my undergraduate journey and professional life, I have explored various technological
dimensions and strived to achieve excellence in the field. During these experiences, I realized
a considerable knowledge gap in Indian universities regarding technical education in the
design field and practical pedagogy. Gaining a master's from a reputed international
university will broaden my perspective on contemporary technological issues and help me
collaborate with the brightest minds and form networks. After investigating the best courses
internationally, I stopped at (Program name) at (University name) because it boasts a diverse
campus, eminent faculties, and a rich alum network that actively engages and opens the
gateway to the big tech giants of the world, which can create a trajectory to contribute my
skills and learn even better from unique and experienced humans there.
With (University name) multidisciplinary cohort and groundbreaking research, my
experience in engineering and design, and my passion for creating equitable access in our
community will help me thrive and achieve my goal of making a long-lasting impact in the
industry. By leveraging the university's innovative research in addressing high-impact
problems, I want to take on the fundamental challenges of creating technology that is
accessible to different individuals and explore opportunities for new innovative technologies
that promote inclusion. My ultimate goal is to become a well-versed User Experience
designer and work toward making products more usable, practical, enjoyable, and equitable
via emerging technologies and create interaction with computers much smarter.
In conclusion, I would like the admissions committee to consider my case by reading this
statement of purpose in letter and spirit. I will leave no stone unturned to become a valuable
addition to the designers’ and engineers' community. I thank the honorable admission
